Trials and Tribulations of Deaccessioning

    We are looking to deaccession a significant amount of items from the collection. Our board is concerned about the public perception of 'getting rid of' donations. We have followed the normal procedures in our collections policy and our collections committee has agreed that these items fall out of the scope of our mission. 
    How have you all combated the public perception? Positive marketing campaign, public forum on deaccessioning or a simple press release?? Ideas, thoughts?
