The Tennessee State Museum is currently looking for two curators.  The focus of our search is for Textile and Decorative Arts Curators.  Please apply if you are interested in a Curator position.  We may shift our focus, depending on the research specialties of the pool of applicants that apply.

Textile Curator Position

This curator’s work will focus on the cataloging, preservation, and interpretation of textiles in the museum’s collection.  This individual will be a key team member in work related to documenting and packing textiles for a planned collections storage facility move.  The individual will serve as the lead curator of exhibits and as a member of a variety of exhibit teams.  Answering inquiries concerning the museum’s collection from the public and other museum professionals is an important task for this position, including assisting with artifact loan requests.  The curator will evaluate possible artifact acquisitions and communicate with potential artifact donors.  The individual will also be responsible for presenting a variety of programming related to Tennessee costumes and textiles for museum guests and other audiences. 

Decorative Arts Curator Position

This curator’s work will focus on the cataloging, preservation, and interpretation of decorative and fine artworks in the museum’s collection.  The individual will serve as the lead curator of exhibits and as a member of a variety of exhibit teams.  Answering inquiries concerning the museum’s collection from museum professionals, public officials, and members of the public is an important task for this position, including assisting with artifact loan requests.  The curator will evaluate possible artifact acquisitions and communicate with potential artifact donors.  The individual will also be responsible for presenting a variety of programming related to Tennessee art for museum guests and other audiences.
