Job Description:
Education Assistant
Reports to: Director of Education & Outreach
Status: Part-time (between 20-29 hours per week, primarily Tuesday – Friday). Potential for growth into a full-time position.
Summary of Position: Responsibilities include preparing materials for and implementing education programs, summer camps, scout programs and public events, as well as upholding the museum rules concerning the care and safety of the visitors, house, collection, and other cultural resources at the site. Duties may involve working outside normal business hours and days,including some Saturdays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be the face and voice of Travellers Rest Historic House Museum.
- Full participation in all educational programs, summer camps, and scout programs.
- Work with children at assigned stations for educational programs.
- Prepare materials for educational programming.
- Maintain education supplies and education inventory lists.
- Be a leader in our Summer Camp programs.
- Assist Directors of Education & Interpretation in creation and implementation of new education programs, scout programs, travelling trunks, and summer camps.
- Assist Director of Education & Outreach in the booking and scheduling of programs.
- Assist Director of Education & Outreach in developing and conducting outreach programs.
- Help Director of Education & Outreach with updating Education Guidebooks to current School Standards.
- Assist in on-going research to improve existing programs.
- Assist Director of Education & Outreach in manning booths at conferences, workshops, and public events.
- Guide house tours and provide information on Middle Tennessee history as needed.
- Assist in operating POS system at Visitor Center Gift Shop.
- Other duties may be required.

- Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Must have obtained a high school diploma; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Pay rate is $14/hour.
