The Tennessee State Museum is looking for a highly motivated Graphic Designer with strong technical skills, a good eye for typography, and a background working on museum exhibitions and/or other spatial design. This person should have a passion for design, flexible attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
Under the direction of the Director of Exhibitions, the Graphic Designer will work closely with exhibition project teams to design and coordinate the design, production, fabrication, installation of exhibit graphics and other exhibition related print and digital materials for the new facility opening October 2018. This talented and goal-oriented person would play a key role in creating memorable visitor experiences.
Main responsibilities include working collaboratively with other designers, curators, content developers, installers, and outside vendors to create immersive, story-driven spaces; developing graphic identities and branding hierarchies per project; ability to interpret exhibition content and creatively bring the exhibition graphic elements to life; and producing illustrative drawings and final production files.
A strong candidate will have experience in all phases of the design process including concept, design development, approvals, and finalizing artwork for production; good knowledge of exhibition fabrication techniques and materials; excellent typography skills; a high level of fluency with MS Office and Adobe CS Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); strong organizational and communication skills (verbal, written, and illustrative); and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Touch-screen interactive interface design and indoor/outdoor wayfinding signage design is a plus. Skill using After Effects and Sketch-Up experience is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to two years of full-time graphic art and/or graphic design work. Substitution of Education for Experience: Course work credit received from an accredited college or university with emphasis in art, communications graphic technology, art advertising and/or graphic art design may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis to a maximum of two years (e.g. an additional forty-five quarter hours with at least nine quarter hours in one or a combination of the above listed fields may substitute for one year of the required experience.)
Substitution of Education for Experience: Qualifying graphic art, graphic design, and/or commercial art work experience may substitute for the required education to a maximum of four years (e.g. experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in graphic art and/or design work may substitute for one year of the required education.)
